SUMMARY

There are many varieties of oak however we mostly handle red and white oak. They are closely related however red oak is more porous and experiences major shrinkage while drying. Classified as a very hard wood, it is very strong and very heavy.

QUALITIES

  • Averages 3.6 lbs. per board foot (144 cubic inches)
  • Heartwood color varies however is predominantly shades of tan in color. It may have shades of red, brown, or grey. 
  • Very little sapwood but when present it can be almost white
