  • Black Walnut is classified as a hard wood variety. Its tough, resists shock well, and can be worked in the shop without much fuss. When finished, the grain pattern is very attractive.


  • Averages 3.1 pounds per board foot (12"x12"x1" or 144 cubic inches)
  • Heartwood: usually chocolate brown, sometimes with darker, purplish, redish streaks.
  • The Sapwood: Off-white/Cream/Tan in color.
